SUMMARY:Art Exhibition: Manifesting: An Analytical Approach to Data Visualization and Story-telling by Lee Carrier
DESCRIPTION:RSVP \nhttps://www.eventbrite.com/e/manifesting-an-analytical-approach-to-data-visualization-and-story-telling-tickets-326670980697 \nMuch like manifestation\, visualization is the practice of imagining what you want to achieve in the future. As if it were true today. The process of visualizing directs your subconscious to be aware of the end goal you have in mind. While the work in this exhibition align to artist\, Lee Carrier’s mixed media style\, the new series includes influences from the data science field. \nCoupled with the pursuit of doctoral research\, Carrier uses her quantitative analysis to illustrate the impact of fine arts programs on the social-emotional and academic development of students. Additionally\, the body of work draws inspiration from social scientist and African-American rights activist\, W.E.B. Du Bois\, who took on the complex task of gathering and manually visualizing the lives of Black Americans through 58 visualizations displayed at the award-winning\, “American Negro” exhibition in the 1900 World’s Fair in Paris. \nRepresenting more than just numbers\, there is a story\, pattern\, and conclusion behind every data. The artwork series\, “Manifesting” takes a collaborative approach to story-telling and visualization to effectively communicate correlations from datasets relative to complex issues within education. The focus of this body of work provides compelling narratives and visualizations to make disaggregated data feel alive\, meaningful and relevant in order to manifest action from target audiences.

SUMMARY:I AM A Writer: Zahra Ali Solo Exhibition - Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Painting to Zahra is solving puzzles in her brain. It gives her a sense of power as she \ncan attempt to control the world around her. This realization came at an early age. As \nsuch\, her combination of cultural experiences manifests as layers and colors in her \nwork. \nShe grew up in Karachi\, Pakistan with a population of over 15 million. In this urban \nmetropolis\, storytelling was iconographed on public buses. Buses are more than a mode \nof transport for passengers; they are a joyous sight to passers-by that share a story. In a \nsystem where bus drivers own their buses\, drivers would decorate the bus exteriors to \nshowcase their ancestral origins with lines of poetry interwoven with ethnic \niconography. \nAfter obtaining a BFA in Painting from Texas State University\, she moved to Houston \nand worked as an artist. The past decade has been a journey of self-discovery for Zahra. \nShe paints to show the world through her lenses; her likes and dislikes. There are times \nwhen life is celebrated\, and at times she shows life’s dark side with a hint of color. \n“I write with my brush\, each stroke has a story\, and every color represents an emotion. \nThe layers are the chapters\, and I invite you to join me in unfolding my book to read it \ntogether. I used to believe I was not a writer\, only a painter. Recently I had an epiphany \nthat I am both. I write through my paintings. Each painting brings to life a story that has \ntouched me\, made me think\, and I feel needs to be shared with the world.” – Zahra Ali \n  \nFree RSVP: \nhttps://www.eventbrite.com/e/i-am-a-writer-solo-exhibition-by-zahra-ali-tickets-483254295607 \n

SUMMARY:The Cacophony by MK Graham
DESCRIPTION:The Cacophony is a powerful large-scale installation of handmade sculptures that challenge the limits of industrial materials and human scale. Monolithic in form and layered in meaning\, the work interrogates systems of power\, control\, blame\, and judgment embedded in our collective consciousness. It stands as a visual reckoning—a haunting tribute to the staggering number of victims of sexual violence in the United States. \nThrough this immersive experience\, artist MK Graham invites viewers to step into the role of witness. By doing so\, the installation offers not only a confrontation with discomfort\, but also a safe and contemplative space to question assumptions\, confront injustice\, and shed the shame that survivors have long been made to carry. \nThe Cacophony is not only a statement—it is a celebration of resilience. It honors the strength of womankind and seeks to unify survivors through solidarity rather than silence. It is a reminder that in the face of darkness\, we can still choose bravery\, vulnerability\, and collective healing. \nThis is more than an exhibition; The Cacophony is a call to community. \nArtist MK Graham holds a Master of Arts degree from Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville\, New York. \nA panel discussion will take place at 6pm with leading experts in law enforcement\, trafficking advocacy\, and mental health recovery\, who will explore collaborative strategies to combat sexual assault and support survivor rehabilitation. \nPanel Discussion: 6pm

SUMMARY:33rd Annual ArtCrawl Houston
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1754167821569{padding-top: 32px !important;padding-bottom: 16px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]\n\nA cornerstone of Houston’s cultural calendar is entering a new era. The 33rd Annual Artcrawl Houston returns this November 22\, upholding the spirit of community-driven creativity that first sparked the event in 1992. For the first time\, the event will move forward without its longtime organizers at Mother Dog Studios. In their place\, a dedicated coalition of Historic Warehouse District artists\, organizations\, and galleries—facilitated by Carla Bisong of Bisong Art Gallery—is proudly carrying the torch. Launched over three decades ago\, Artcrawl Houston was born from a desire to connect artists directly with the public in the city’s then-emerging Warehouse District. The original organizers sought to create a space where art lovers could explore working studios\, engage with artists\, and discover Houston’s vibrant and growing art scene firsthand. That grassroots spirit still defines the event today. “This year\, we’re honoring the legacy while expanding the vision\,” says Carla Bisong\, who has operated her namesake gallery in the district for over 11 years. “We’re proud to keep the Artcrawl alive with the same energy\, diversity\, and open-door creativity that has defined it since the very beginning.” The 2025 edition promises a dynamic lineup of open studios\, exhibitions\, installations\, and pop-up performances\, all taking place in and around Houston’s Historic Warehouse District. Artists and visitors alike can expect a celebration of contemporary art in all its forms—abstract\, figurative\, digital\, performance\, and more—accompanied by food\, music\, and family-friendly programming. Organizers are also working to ensure the event is more accessible and inclusive than ever\, with outreach to local businesses and organizations\, expanded social media promotion\, and community partnerships. SUMMARY:The Black Experience : Past\, Present\, & Future
DESCRIPTION:The Black Experience: Past\, Present and Future is a group exhibition presented during Black History Month\n\n\nCurated by The Dream Affect Foundation\, The Black Experience: Past\, Present and Future is a group exhibition presented during Black History Month that considers Black artistic practice as both an archive and a catalyst. On view from February 6 – February 28 at Bisong Art Gallery\, the exhibition brings together six contemporary artists whose works reflect the enduring influence of history while asserting bold\, forward-thinking visions of Black life\, identity\, and imagination. Featuring works by Lauren Luna\, Romeo Robinson\, Craig “TheArtist” Carter\, Corey Haynes\, Lanre Buraimoh\, and John Whaley Jr.\, the exhibition spans varied visual languages—each distinct\, yet united by a shared engagement with cultural memory\, resilience\, and creative sovereignty. Rather than framing Black history as static or commemorative\, Inherited Futures positions it as living\, evolving\, and unfinished. The works on view speak to lineage\, personal mythology\, social consciousness\, and futurity—inviting collectors to consider how today’s Black artists are shaping the culture of tomorrow. This exhibition is presented with an eye toward connoisseurship and legacy collecting. Each artwork represents not only aesthetic and conceptual rigor\, but also a meaningful opportunity to steward voices that are actively defining the future of contemporary Art. Proceeds from artwork acquisitions will directly support university art students in financial need\, extending the impact to education and professional artistic development. Opening Reception: February 6: 5pm – 8pm Location: Bisong Art Gallery On Display: Feb 6 – 28.
