SUMMARY:Jubilee Exhibition: Celebration of Freedom @ Neiman Marcus (The Galleria)
DESCRIPTION:Jubilee: A Celebration of Freedom. \nLocation: Neiman Marcus (The Galleria)\nCocktail Reception: June 13: 5 – 7 pm\n\nArtwork on Display: June 13-16 \n\nThe concept of freedom has been a fundamental aspect of human existence since the beginning of time. It is a complex and multifaceted idea that has inspired countless artists throughout history. An art exhibition representing the meaning of freedom is an opportunity to explore the many different ways in which this concept can be expressed and interpreted. Artists from across the United States are invited to submit their work to the juried art exhibition in response to the theme of Freedom \nThe D.R.E.A.M Affect Foundation’s mission is raising awareness of the underrepresentation of art students of color and assisting emerging artists. Keeping in step with our mission\, The D.R.E.A.M. Affect Foundation will donate a portion of all art sales to scholarships. These scholarships will allow artists to have the opportunity to broaden their skills and education and reform the underrepresentation of minorities in the fine arts.

SUMMARY:Juneteenth Fashion Showcase & Vendor Pop-Up
DESCRIPTION:Step into a realm where creativity knows no bounds as we invite you to an enchanting afternoon of Art and Fashion Fusion! Join us for an immersive experience that seamlessly intertwines the worlds of visual aesthetics and sartorial elegance. \nView on display contemporary artwork from artists with diverse backgrounds and creativity. \n  \nAlso\, unveil House of Couture Houston’s latest creations\, blending innovation\, tradition\, and a touch of the unexpected. \nWitness the fusion of colors\, textures\, and styles that redefine the language of fashion. \n  \nAbout Betty: \nBetty Branch is a proud Chicago native\, a mother of two\, a great stylist\, and a very accomplished businesswoman. Betty launched her first boutique in 2014 after a horrifying experience at Macy’s. At the time\, Betty tried on multiple items but left in tears when nothing would fit. This was the moment Betty realized retailers (like Macy’s) weren’t catering to women of color and their beautiful shapes. Fast forward 6 years later\, Betty has a dedicated customer base\, community support\, a staff\, and a virtual storefront. \n  \nAbout Carla: \nCarla C. Bisong founded Bisong Art Gallery in 2013 inside a 1300 sq. ft loft located in the Historic Warehouse District of downtown Houston\, Texas. Also a member of the International Society of Appraisers (ISA). When Carla decided to retire from Goldman Sachs\, it was a difficult but necessary transition after 13 years in the Investment Banking Industry. She wanted to pursue her dream of being a Gallerist full-time and make an impact in the art community. Carla loves helping individuals and corporations discover meaningful artwork. With each piece of art\, there is a story behind it\, and Carla enjoys uncovering those stories for clients and art collectors. She finds great joy in supporting both emerging as well as globally known and sought-after artists. Carla Bisong is also the President of the Houston Art Gallery Association (HAGA).

SUMMARY:The Cacophony by MK Graham
DESCRIPTION:The Cacophony is a powerful large-scale installation of handmade sculptures that challenge the limits of industrial materials and human scale. Monolithic in form and layered in meaning\, the work interrogates systems of power\, control\, blame\, and judgment embedded in our collective consciousness. It stands as a visual reckoning—a haunting tribute to the staggering number of victims of sexual violence in the United States. \nThrough this immersive experience\, artist MK Graham invites viewers to step into the role of witness. By doing so\, the installation offers not only a confrontation with discomfort\, but also a safe and contemplative space to question assumptions\, confront injustice\, and shed the shame that survivors have long been made to carry. \nThe Cacophony is not only a statement—it is a celebration of resilience. It honors the strength of womankind and seeks to unify survivors through solidarity rather than silence. It is a reminder that in the face of darkness\, we can still choose bravery\, vulnerability\, and collective healing. \nThis is more than an exhibition; The Cacophony is a call to community. \nArtist MK Graham holds a Master of Arts degree from Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville\, New York. \nA panel discussion will take place at 6pm with leading experts in law enforcement\, trafficking advocacy\, and mental health recovery\, who will explore collaborative strategies to combat sexual assault and support survivor rehabilitation. \nPanel Discussion: 6pm

SUMMARY:33rd Annual ArtCrawl Houston
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1754167821569{padding-top: 32px !important;padding-bottom: 16px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \n\nA cornerstone of Houston’s cultural calendar is entering a new era. The 33rd Annual Artcrawl Houston returns this November 22\, upholding the spirit of community-driven creativity that first sparked the event in 1992. For the first time\, the event will move forward without its longtime organizers at Mother Dog Studios. In their place\, a dedicated coalition of Historic Warehouse District artists\, organizations\, and galleries—facilitated by Carla Bisong of Bisong Art Gallery—is proudly carrying the torch. Launched over three decades ago\, Artcrawl Houston was born from a desire to connect artists directly with the public in the city’s then-emerging Warehouse District. The original organizers sought to create a space where art lovers could explore working studios\, engage with artists\, and discover Houston’s vibrant and growing art scene firsthand. That grassroots spirit still defines the event today. “This year\, we’re honoring the legacy while expanding the vision\,” says Carla Bisong\, who has operated her namesake gallery in the district for over 11 years. “We’re proud to keep the Artcrawl alive with the same energy\, diversity\, and open-door creativity that has defined it since the very beginning.” The 2025 edition promises a dynamic lineup of open studios\, exhibitions\, installations\, and pop-up performances\, all taking place in and around Houston’s Historic Warehouse District. Artists and visitors alike can expect a celebration of contemporary art in all its forms—abstract\, figurative\, digital\, performance\, and more—accompanied by food\, music\, and family-friendly programming. Organizers are also working to ensure the event is more accessible and inclusive than ever\, with outreach to local businesses and organizations\, expanded social media promotion\, and community partnerships. The 33rd Annual Artcrawl Houston will take place on Saturday\, November 22\, from 10 AM to 8 PM\, with select events on Friday and Sunday. \nIn Memoriam LOUISE SCHLACHTER\n1958-2025\n \n   To participate\, volunteer\, or sponsor the event\, please email Info@BisongGallery.com.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]2025 ArtCrawl Houston ParticipantsCome celebrate 33 years of artistic survival and expression in the nation’s 4th largest city — where creativity has always found a way to thrive. SUMMARY:The Black Experience : Past\, Present\, & Future
DESCRIPTION:The Black Experience: Past\, Present and Future is a group exhibition presented during Black History Month\n\n\nCurated by The Dream Affect Foundation\, The Black Experience: Past\, Present and Future is a group exhibition presented during Black History Month that considers Black artistic practice as both an archive and a catalyst. On view from February 6 – February 28 at Bisong Art Gallery\, the exhibition brings together six contemporary artists whose works reflect the enduring influence of history while asserting bold\, forward-thinking visions of Black life\, identity\, and imagination. Featuring works by Lauren Luna\, Romeo Robinson\, Craig “TheArtist” Carter\, Corey Haynes\, Lanre Buraimoh\, and John Whaley Jr.\, the exhibition spans varied visual languages—each distinct\, yet united by a shared engagement with cultural memory\, resilience\, and creative sovereignty. Rather than framing Black history as static or commemorative\, Inherited Futures positions it as living\, evolving\, and unfinished. The works on view speak to lineage\, personal mythology\, social consciousness\, and futurity—inviting collectors to consider how today’s Black artists are shaping the culture of tomorrow. This exhibition is presented with an eye toward connoisseurship and legacy collecting. Each artwork represents not only aesthetic and conceptual rigor\, but also a meaningful opportunity to steward voices that are actively defining the future of contemporary Art. Proceeds from artwork acquisitions will directly support university art students in financial need\, extending the impact to education and professional artistic development. Opening Reception: February 6: 5pm – 8pm Location: Bisong Art Gallery On Display: Feb 6 – 28.

SUMMARY:Othered : A profound exploration of the lives and identities of biracial individuals
DESCRIPTION:Artist: Melissa Aytenfisu\n\n\n\nOthered is a profound exploration of the lives and identities of biracial individuals. In a world where racial mixing is increasingly accepted\, the biracial experience remains a unique and underrepresented facet of our collective narrative. Through the medium of photography\, Melissa aims to delve into the intricate tapestry of biracial identity. \nThis body of work will focus on the subject of biracialism (black and white). She particularly likes to address issues such as: \n1. The extent to which biracial individuals are categorized and their senses of identity molded by societal norms and expectations. \n2. The degree to which biracial people differ or coalesce in their developing senses of self. \n3. Self-identity: The evolving impact of a growing population of biracial individuals on societal concepts of race\, racism and post-racism. \nMelissa believes this research and creative inquiry will deepen understanding of biracial identity in ways that meaningfully benefit both biracial individuals and the broader community. The project stands as a testament to the power of art to illuminate the often-unseen dimensions of our shared humanity. It celebrates the diversity and unity embodied by biracial individuals and invites viewers into an open dialogue about the rich mosaic of our interconnected lives. \nThe exhibition will present more than 30 mixed-media portraits of biracial individuals ranging in age from three months to over 60 years old. Each work is constructed in three distinct layers. The foundational layer features microscopic images of scalp skin cells from individuals of different racial backgrounds\, captured using a professional microscope in the pathology laboratory at Houston Methodist with the support of Dr. El-Zataari. \nThe middle layer consists of a portrait of a biracial model wearing a white T-shirt\, emphasizing presence and individuality. The final layer incorporates hand-drawn zentangle patterns that swirl around each figure\, evoking the visual language of DNA strands\, genetics\, and biology—symbolically intertwining science\, identity\, and lived experience. \nOpening Reception: \nFriday May 1 \n5pm – 8pm \nThe art is on display through May 28\, 2026 \nGallery Hours: \n1-5pm Thursday – Saturday and By Appointment \nContact: Info@BisongGallery.com

SUMMARY:Jubilee : A Celebration of Freedom
DESCRIPTION:June 19\, 2026 Opening reception at Bisong Art Gallery 5 – 8pm\nExhibition Dates: June 19 – July 17\, 2026\nExhibition Venue: Bisong Art Gallery\n\n\nThe D.R.E.A.M Affect Foundation’s mission is raising awareness of the underrepresentation  of art students of color in higher learning institutions. We believe that every individual has the right to pursue their passion and creativity\, regardless of their background.  Our goal is to create a platform for discussion and collaboration among students\, educators\, and institutions to address the systemic barriers that prevent minority students from accessing opportunities in the arts.  We aim to empower and support these students in their pursuit of higher education\, and to work towards a diverse and inclusive arts community.  We believe that by amplifying the voices of underrepresented art students\, we can create meaningful change and promote an equitable society. Keeping in step with our mission\, The D.R.E.A.M. Affect Foundation will be donating a portion of all art sales to scholarships for minority art students.\n\nJubilee: A Celebration of Freedom. The concept of freedom has been a fundamental aspect  of human existence since the beginning of time. It is a complex and multifaceted idea that  has inspired countless artists throughout history. An art exhibition representing the meaning  of freedom is an opportunity to explore the many different ways in which these concepts can be  expressed and interpreted.\nAll submissions should emphasize themes and perspectives related to the theme of Freedom.
