I love the Gulf Coast and drive to Bolivar and Galveston any chance I get. Once while waiting to start my music gig at the Stingaree at Crystal beach I spied an oddball spoonbill perched on a nearby pylon. It had a distinctive circle shaped mark on its head that made it look like it was wearing those goofy big headphones that are back in style. At the time my stepson couldn’t seem to leave home without a pair of beats around his head. I imagined a stern pelican looking on in disdain while the vivid spooner jammed on. It seemed the perfect image to represent the often strained relationship between adults and teens.
